There has been some concern about valve adjustments on the new 2010 R1200 GS and RT, the job is very straight forward as show here. Head with the valve cover removed.
Set the timing marks so they face each other.
The valve clearance is easily checked between the cam and rocker arm.
To change setting, first remove shaft retaining clip.
Slide arm off the shaft.
Rocker arm with adjuster (called a semi-sphere by BMW, we found it hard to say) held here in place here just by oil tension.
Rocker with adjuster removed (now you understand semi-sphere description).
Measuring adjuster, this is the same as the marking on the sphere - and the size BMW gives them in the part# description, very convenient. They sell for about $5.50 each and come in .05mm increments
To assemble, place a dab of grease in the rocker arm
Press adjuster into rocker.
The grease will hold the adjuster in place for assembly
Slide arm back into place and snap clip onto the shaft, valve one done – easy, right?
The inner rocker looks harder to do, check clearance first.
Push shaft back.
Slide rocker arm the other way and off! Measure and change adjuster as necessary. (per step#8)
Lower rocker back into place.
Hold rocker arm and...
Slide shaft back into place
Replace shaft clip. How hard was that?
